Testing and Evaluation

Parents of homeschooled children between the ages of 6 and 18 (as of September 30) are required to provide evidence to the division superintendent of progress by August 1 of each year. Parents may submit either

  • A composite score in or above the fourth stanine (23rd percentile) on any nationally normed standardized achievement test
  • An evaluation that the division superintendent determines to indicate that the child is achieving an adequate level of educational growth and progress.

The standardized achievement test must be a nationally normed standardized test, which is a test that has been given to large numbers of students at specific grade levels and whose scores make up the norms which make it possible to compare students.

The evaluation may include written evaluations stating that the child has made evidence of progress this past year, a portfolio submitted directly to the school division, or the results of a standardized achievement test which is not nationally normed.
