January 6-29 Homeschoolers at Pamplin Historical Park Home School Month programs can be booked for Tuesdays and Thursdays during these two months. Reservations are required. January 8 RRHE Spelling Bee Spellers through 8th grade are invited to this competition with the top two winners advancing to the Richmond Times-Dispatch Homeschool Division Bee held later in January in the Richmond area. Please sign up by e-mailing your child's name, grade, date of birth, parents' name, address, and phone number to the contact below. Although not necessary to compete in the bee, a limited number of study booklets will be available for $1.50 each. Please indicate if you want to reserve a booklet. January 9-11 The Legend of the Poinsettia The Latin Ballet's production of The Legend of the Poinsettia elegantly portrays the traditions of the season in the Latin America countries of Mexico, Colombia and Venezuela. Dances and music demonstrate cultural celebrations with aguinaldos, gaitas, cumbias and vallenatos. The production also includes representations of traditional dances and music from Puerto Rico and Spain such as the parrandas and Rumba Flamenca. The spiritual reverence of the season is combined with the joy and laughter of traditional festivities of dance and song. Location: The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen, Glen Allen
January 12 Measure Up Standard and non-standard unit of measure can be
used all over the Museum in exciting hands-on ways to sharpen student's math and geography skills. All classes include free play in the museum 9:30 am - 1:00 pm. Time: 10:30-11:30 am Location: Children's Museum of Richmond, Richmond

January 26 - March 8 Seminars on Science Graduate courses in life, earth, or physical sciences, including Earth: Inside and Out; Evolution; The Ocean System; Genetics, Genomics, and Genethics; The Solar System; The Link Between Dinosaurs and Birds; The Diversity of Fishes; and Sharks and Rays.
January 28 Homeschool Day We’ll be presenting a selection of fun and engaging classroom programs that highlight important Natural Science and Earth Science concepts for elementary and middle school grades. In addition to those learning opportunities, there will be displays by NASA, the Monitor National Marine Sanctuary (NOAA) and the Chesapeake Bay National Estaurine Research Reserve (NOAA). Participants can also delve into the world of microbes in our newest changing exhibit, "Microbes: Invisbile Invaders, Amazing Allies." Location: Gunston Hall, Mason Neck
